[Contents] The "Street Racer" style of car modification became a huge hit among young car enthusiasts in Japan in the early 1980s. The basic theory is to modify cars to resemble race cars, with engines and exteriors changed specifically for circuit racing. At the time, it was difficult to modify cars legally, so these were considered illegal modifications and had a strong outlaw image. Particularly popular among street racers were the wide tires and wheels used for race cars, and the overfenders that covered them. In the 2000s, Liberty Walk in Aichi Prefecture popularized this style of combining old-school modification techniques with modern supercars and sports cars worldwide. This 35GT-RR is inspired by the FIA Group 5 racing cars (Silhouette Formula) that were popular worldwide in the 1980s, and has been customized to the point where it is almost unrecognizable from its original form, with silhouette-style fenders and other modifications.
