The NOKTON 40mm F1.2 Aspherical is a large-aperture manual focus lens exclusively for the Canon RF mount. It covers a full-size image circle, and its optical design is optimized for the image sensor of Canon R system cameras. It does not rely on the camera's electronic lens aberration correction function, but rather captures the performance of the lens itself in the image.
This lens is equipped with electronic contacts, enabling electrical communication between the lens and the body. When paired with a Canon EOS R system body, it supports Exif information, in-body image stabilization (3-axis)*2, and three focus assist functions (magnified display, peaking, and focus guide). The lens is constructed of 6 groups and 8 elements, two of which are double-sided aspherical. Despite its compact size, it achieves an astonishingly large F1.2 aperture for a full-frame 40mm lens. Enjoy reliable optical performance even at wide open aperture, as well as smooth, large bokeh.
The angle of view of a 40mm focal length is equivalent to 60mm on an APS-C size camera, making it highly versatile and usable as a standard lens on both full-size and APS-C sizes.
This lens has a minimum focusing distance of 0.3m and manual focusing is required. The metal focus ring features a diamond pattern for excellent grip. It provides stability when attaching commercially available video focus gear, and another feature is the greased, silky feel of the high-precision metal helicoid, which can withstand even the most demanding focusing at wide apertures.
The aperture is mechanically controlled via a direct connection to the operation ring, and is adjusted on the lens rather than the camera's command dial. The aperture ring has a click switching mechanism, allowing for stepless opening and closing of the aperture without being affected by clicks when shooting video or finely adjusting the depth of focus. The lens has 10 aperture blades, which allows for a neat depiction of out-of-focus areas of point light sources. A dedicated metal lens hood is also included.
